Alcoholics Anonymous: Reproduction of 1st Edition Paperback – April 1, 2008

I buy 5 or 10 at a time and during the announcements I let people know I've got them for a $1 (or free) and I almost always sell a couple.The book is very nice , especially the index (every single word!) and the original manuscript for Chapter 5, How it Works, Rarely have seen a person fail....e.g."If you are not convinced on these vital issues, you ought to re-read the book to this point or else throw it away!".I've carried one of these for 7 years and most of the pages are loose and I'd get a new one except this one is so marked up with things I have thought in the meetings. I was able to do this because it's small and I can and do carry it to meetings.This version also has some interesting sections at the back, like Intergroup phone numbers for every place in the world, and translations for "Where can I locate an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting?" for almost all of the languages of the world.This book, at this price ($2.60), is what the AA program is about to me.

Be advised, these are small!

I purchase these and send them to friends in recovery, usually accompanied by a chip. The feed back is great. They love that they can travel anywhere with a copy of the big book in their pocket. It’s great with the definitions in the back as well as AA numbers worldwide.

I've never understood the idea behind reproductions of books that have since been updated, but that's just me. Since the "Big Book" is now in its 4th edition, with the first part intact and the stories in the back updated, that's the one I'd choose for beginners. But there is something to be said for reading the older stories and reflecting on how the basic plight of alcoholics and other addicts has remained the same for 80 years (as of 2019).

Perfect size book for carrying around with you anywhere. This book along with the Bible has saved my life numerous times eternally grateful for Bill and Bob.
