## Description

Product description

Review: The Best - The water is very hard in my area and I do not like salt based water softeners. In the past, I have tried permanent magnet based de-scalers, with limited success. Since these have a static magnetic field then their effect seems to be determined by water velocity and, therefore, do not perform well when water flow is low. The EDDY, however, is based on an AC field and does not have this problem. I have had the EDDY for two months now and it has performed flawlessly. When I first received it, for example, I cleaned a small nozzle based shower head and recommissioned it. This unit had been set aside because it always clogged with calcium deposits. I also cleaned the glass shower doors and dishwasher. Now, after two months of use, none of these items show any evidence of calcium deposits. The water also seems softer when using shampoos, etc. I believe there may be several reasons for some reviewers to not have a good experience. These are all easy mistakes to make during the installation, especially if the instructions are not carefully followed. Of course, too many of us fall into that category. 1. It is very easy to make a mistake in winding the coils and, therefore, end up with opposing coils. 2. It is very easy to get the coil wires mixed up and this can have the same effect as a wrong winding 3. As stated in the instructions, this unit will not work on iron pipe, but how many homeowners know the difference and most water supply lines are iron pipe. 4. The electronics unit is best when it is located close to the coils 5. Expectations are too often tied to a water softener instead of a de-scaler and this occurs because customers often do not understand the difference 6. As stated in the manual, existing water pipes may have significant hard water build up in them from the past. If this is the case, then it will take some time for this to be descaled out by the conditioned water and this may initially delay optimum results. Lastly, I believe the price is reasonable and the unit is a good value. So far, the quality seems to be there as I have had zero problems. Update: It's now been almost 5 months since I installed the Eddy and my "rain shower" still does not show any issues with hard water deposits. This is one of the older shower heads with metal, not rubber, nozzles so deposits normally show quickly. Also, my glass shower doors stay clear with normal cleaning and my 15 year old water heater has been performing better. Additionally, my dishwasher is still clean. Obviously, there have not been any problems with the Eddy, either, so my report is all positive.
Review: Quick to install, worked within a day or two! 🌈💦 - I didn’t realize how hard our spring water was, which comes from snow melt runoff of our beautiful nearby mountains, until we stayed at a hotel recently and I took a shower in it—I was surprised how quickly the soap and shampooI rinsed out, how my hand skipped and made squeaking sounds as I ran it down my arm! And afterwards I was so impressed with the softness and full body of my hair. I was determined to finally do something with our water back home. I was skeptical about this unit at first, as it seemed too good to be true due to being reasonably priced and quick & easy to install. But I really did not want to deal w/the installation of a bulky softener and commuted to purchasing/disposing several pounds of salt. I was eventually convinced after reading the reviews, figuring it was worth a shot. It arrived on schedule and took just 20 minutes to install onto our pvc pipes where our spring water enters our house and enters our main debris/sediment filter. Then I plugged it in, checked the lights on the box, and crossed my fingers. Per the instructions, I had already descaled our bathroom fixtures (faucets and toilets), so I could tell if/when it was working. I also let the kitchen sink and one of our showers run a bit to move the water through the system. I’d say I could feel a difference by the next day or two, when I began to feel that familiar squeaky clean sensation on some dishes I was washing. I am not noticing as much squeakiness in the shower, yet, but it is further down the house from the inlet and may have more pipe to clean out first. I’ll check back later to let you all know how it progresses, but so far I am pleased to see it is improving the water quality.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this help eliminate the water spots I get on my cars after washing them?**
A: I don't know about car spots, but we have way less build up on the sinks and shower head.We put the unit on the galvanized iron pipe in the 1950's home we bought, and we could see a difference after a few weeks. Then we moved to a condo and installed an Eddy on the PVC incoming water pipe and we could see a difference right away. Much less stool ring, sink scum and shower head build up. I would say that the Eddy seems to work better on PVC than iron pipe. It may pay to insert a section of PVC for the Eddy if your home has iron plumbing.

**Q: I have well water. With this Eddy product will this eliminate the need for a water softener or whole house filtering unit?**
A: my home is 3000 sq feet. i tried it and after 30 days my whole house has delicious drinking, washing, showering water. the water tastes like it has been filtered. our white clothes are whiter. no more chemically smelling sludgey water !!!

**Q: since this is to be installed on the inline pipe, is it waterproof for outside installation or do I need to drill a hole in the wall to access it?**
A: This is not a device you want to install outside.I installed it on the wall inside my garage. Basically I had to make a hole on the wall to get the leads to connect to the Eddy. It was handy to have an electric outlet near to the area where it was installed.

**Q: Can I use this device in a hot water pipe? in my building, each apartment comes a cold water pipe and a hot water pipe. The problem is on the hot pipe**
A: Yes, it comes with two circuits that can be used on two separate pipes if your water is set up like yours. The key is to do hot and cold pipes, not just your hot line. Make sure the direction of the wire wrapping is the same direction related to the flow direction of the water. If not, the circuits will cancel each other and the device will act like it is off or disconnected.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just installed. will give updates NEW UPDATE
*by J***R on December 12, 2018*

OK, As an engineer I am skeptical about this hocos pocus like device but I am willing to give it a try because of all the positive "anecdotal" info here. Why skeptical? Because this is not changing the chemical natural of the water. It maybe is manipulating ions but the calcium is still there. (that is what makes hard water hard) The reason why I am testing this is I don't want that big water softener in my garage. I have lived in 6 homes in 6 states and had everything from perfect town water to deep well water that was loaded with all kinds of stuff and everything in between. I have had the big water softeners and whole house filters, pumps and uv systems. It is a nightmare. My current situation is a I just bought a brand new home and it has city water. It has a water-softener loop in the garage for a hook up but none is there yet. I don't want one unless I really need it so I will try this first and return it if it does not fix the problem. Now the water is hard here. My wife and I noticed it on our first shower. She reported to me " something is wrong, the soap is broken and my hair feels like straw". Yep I said we have hard water. I tested it with a strip test from Home Depot and it reads about 450 . That is HARD WATER. All the other tests were pretty normal but I could smell a very slight little chlorine. but it tested within normal range. After two days of eddy install : It may be my mind but we both noticed our hair is feeling a little better. (not normal yet but a little better) I still think the soap should lather more but we think there is a slight improvement. Now the water heater holds 50 gals so there has to be a lot of the "pre eddy" water in there. so lets give it a full couple weeks and I will start retesting the water. For now I give it 3 stars but I want to see the actual measured hardness come down. I don't see how it can but I am trying to keep an open mind. If the effects of hard water disappear but the measurement still is high I will keep the eddy. If I see no real improvement in hardness or hair/soap/skin/clothes/scale etc... I will return it and buy a water softener and filter system.(ugh) So I will report back in a week or so... until then. It has been several weeks or so since I put this in and I wanted to update. I moved my rating to 4 stars. This definitely has some desired effects. The water still tests as hard but my hair feels much more normal now. Not so dry and stiff. Current hardness is about 250 or so but that is based on reading a color chart that is hard to distinguish between the colors with any degree of accuracy. That said my wife has told me I fixed the problem. I don’t see much scale buildup either. I will continue to monitor. For now though I think I will hold off on getting a big water softener system as this appears to have some merit. 3/18/2025: been using this now since 2018. It works well but it is not perfect. I love it because the cost and size. I have not had excessive build up but I do get some. I think it is worth the money IF you don't need perfect water. If you do, then get the full blown system but this has some merit. For me , My wife likes the water with this and that makes it good enough for me.
