Truck Tailgate Assist Shock Lift Support For Silverado 1500 2500 HD 3500 HD GMC Sierra

The media could not be loaded.  This will likely safe me from expending extra money in the long run on the plastic bushing that assists with the slow assisted drop tail gate feature. I ordered 2 of these, one for each side, and yes the seller says it is for driver side, but that I believe is the reason why they end up breaking for most people, one of them would only support so much, and the weight bearing is not asymmetrical. So don't cheap out, I got 2 for about $40 and that should help the small shock's life last longer. I also modified the installation by adding a self tapping screw to the plate that is mounted on the tail gate it self for added security, although the inner locking screw went in as instructed except I tightened it to 10ft lbs of torque, as that is the lowest my torque ratchet can do instead of the recommended 8ft lbs. Just for added info, the factory bushing is around $30 OEM..from online or dealer.. so for $10 more, you can avoid the load on that plastic piece, and also add a real shock assisted drop gate..Hope someone finds the review help full!

My 2014 Silverado has the tailgate assist built into the tailgate from the factory (via a torsion bar) but after adding a tailgate liner it increased the weight of the gate and started to lower as if the assist was not there. I supplemented the factory assist with this kit and its working well. The reason I have not given 5 stars is it has only been installed for a week and I cannot speak to the durability/life of the strut. Its hit or miss on these struts if they last or fail prematurely so I will revise my review after a few months of use.

Watched the a video on installation and installation is as noted, simple and straight forward. According to the instruction sheet, the list of parts include a “Mylar sheet” and “thread lock tube”. Neither item was included. Luckily, I have thread lock on hand but no “Mylar sheet”. Not necessarily enough of a concern to go through the hassle of returning a $20 item. Would have rated it a five star if not for this oversight on packaging.

Installed on a 2014 Silverado.My tailgate is very heavy and if you drop it look out. The shock was easy to install and allows the tailgate to drop slower without crashing down. It will not make it any lighter lifting it, no help there but definitely makes it safer to lower it. Proper name for this item should be “ tailgate assist lower “.

So easy to instal, didn’t need instructions. It helps allot when your hands are full. I lost allot of pallets an logs so this helps.

Took me longer to find all the right tools I needed for the job than it did to install it. Love the difference it made in lifting and lowering my tailgate. I highly recommend this set up! I ordered it on a Saturday and it was delivered in 2 days on Manday. Had it installed in less than 5 minutes.

Good product. Well made and fairly easy install. The tool it comes with was confusing. Directions a bit vague but we got it figured out. Drops a little faster than I’d like but my friend got a different brand and it does the same thing. Likely just a limitation of weight to resistance ratio for the piston size in the small space.
