She was 94 years old, and her eyesight was such that she needed a very large screen. We already owned a $300 DLP Acer projector with 1280x800 resolution, 3000 ANSI Lumens (Standard), 2400 ANSI Lumens (ECO) rating, and 13,000:1 Contrast Ratio.She needed the larger picture, and we were happy letting her use the Acer projector to enjoy her religious documentaries and nature programs. Sometimes, though, we wanted to watch a movie while she was enjoying her programs – and since we had 2 projector screens (one in her room and one in the basement), we thought “Let’s get Mamaw her own projector.”So we tried this one. Pretty inexpensive comparatively, and the brightness rating was greater than the $300 one.Well, it didn’t work for us. People watching TV with her were complaining of headaches and hurting eyes – and even grandma asked “Can you get it any brighter?”BRIGHTNESS: this projector is supposedly rated at 1,200 lumens MORE than the $300 one (the Acer was 2400 lumens on ‘ECO’, which is what we always ran with) – but I’ve attached photos to this review showing both projectors in action. Clearly, the DracoLight 3600 lumen rating is some other type of lumens (perhaps non-ANSI ?). Or, maybe it’s the contrast ratio – 13,000:1 (Acer) vs. 2000: 1 (DracoLight)? I dunno. But seriously, even afternoon sunlight was a huge problem for the DracoLight – it had to basically be night time to see at all.CLARITY: I knew going into it the resolution was gonna be less – 1280x800 (Acer) vs. 800x480 (DracoLight) – but she was only watching DVDs, so I didn’t think it would make much difference. Well, it actually did. The image was hard on the eyes to look at – you really could see the squares which made up the pixels. Video was fuzzy, and text was forget it. Perhaps it’s more the fault of the technology employed (DLP for the Acer, LCD for the DracoLight) – but no amount of savings was worth ruining people’s eyesight, so that was reason enough to send it back.So why all the 5 star reviews? And why am I giving it a 3?Well, we were used to the picture the $300 projector produced – that level of brightness and quality. If you’ve never had a projector before, seeing ANYTHING on the wall is an improvement – and if your budget can only afford the DracoLight, you’re probably gonna be satisfied (hence all the 5 stars).But, if you can afford a little bit more, I think you’d be better served by getting something more – even as low as the $300-$400 range would yield a drastically better experience.PS – After returning this, we gave grandma the Acer one and bought the BenQ MW535A:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DW1GFB2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 That was 10 months ago, and we’ve been pretty happy with it – great value for the money. Especially when you consider that the price of a large screen TV is usually $1500 and up.PPS – the BenQ has only one con – don’t turn it on right after plugging it in to the power. Plug it in and then give it 5-10 min before turning it on. Otherwise, if it’s turned on too soon, the bulb doesn’t get enough power and won’t kick on, giving you an error light. If that happens, just unplug it, plug it back in, and give it some time before turning it on. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great projector for occasional use. *by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 1, 2019* The media could not be loaded.  I got this projector to use outside this summer. It is currently rainy here so I haven't been able to test it outside, but I was able to test it in my living room and basement. (To see the difference between it being lighter outside and darker). I didnt have a great setup to try it out but I was able to fix it so I could test it out. I hooked a roku up to it and it worked and I also got a HDMI/ C Cable to hook it up to my phone and was able to use that as well. Both ways worked well. I tried it out on a fabric screen at a little bit of an angle because I didnt have a good place to hang up the screen or a good place across from it to try to plug it in. (I didnt want to search for an extension cord). It was a little pixelated as seen in the picture (the picture was taken up close to the screen), however it doesn't bother me. We don't care if we have exceptional top quality since I didn't want to pay that kind of money and it will really only be used occassionally during the summer. It is great to use the top part to be able to focus the picture easily. Sometimes the picture was a little blurred when the words were clear and vice versa. However that could have also been from the angle of the projector and I was able to find a happy medium that I was happy with. This should work perfect for us to use outside while sitting by the fire during the summer. The sound is pretty great considering it is built in, I dont think we will really need to use speakers with it at all which is great. I took a video of the sound when it was connected to my phone (you can adjust the volume with the volume control on your phone too). The controls on the top of the projector were easy to use so I never searched for batteries for the remote so I never tried it out. This is super easy to figure out how to use without reading instructions. Everything fits nice inside the box for storage as well. Overall I was expecting to spend $$$ on a good projector but took a chance on getting this one and I don't regret it!
