Review: OMG, this really worked. - This pillow really did a shockingly excellent job lowering the GH of my aquarium. My GH reduced from 18 to 4 dGH after 24 hours in my filter. Amazing, huh! The results lasted for about a month. After that, the GH slowly rises until the pillow is recharged. After about 8 weeks of use my GH is about 11-12 dGH without a recharge. Results may vary for larger tanks. I have this in a 10 gallon aquarium.

**Q: Where exactly in the filter is this pillow supposed to go?**
A: preferably in your filter or somewhere with a lot of water movement

**Q: What is the recharging process?**
A: 3 tablespoons aquarium salt dissolved in 7 ounces of tap water, use a shallow dish.  Rinse the pillow after removing from filter area and soak in salt solution for 2 hrs.  Always store pillow in salt solution when not using.  Discard pillow when it is no longer effective (check the water hardness to verify.)  I use a plastic Chinese to-go dish, the white rectangular ones.

**Q: Will it stain water**
A: No, it will not stain water.

**Q: Does it hurt to leave the pillows in the filter until next water change? Will it shorten the life of the pillows (x's you can recharge)?**
A: The instruction I found online say that it should not be left in for long periods. And, you can recharge it with sunlight, if you use it for the period of time only long enough to get the change you are looking for in the water. Thanks my experience.

I have well water that is very hard. I put this pillow in the filter and just a little over 12 hours there was a dramatic improvement. I'll leave it in just a little longer next time. I didn't give 5 stars for ease of use for a few reasons. It's too big for my extra small filter pump and I couldn't find a smaller one so I did expect that anyways. I removed the carbon filter temporarily, then I just stuffed the pillow into the filter, but not so much as to cause the flow to be blocked. It will stick out at the top because you can't stuff the whole pillow in and left the cover off. When I was done with the pillow I put my carbon filter back in. The only other thing is that the pillow contents are not distributed well in the pillow cover. It wants to collect on one side. Despite all this it is sufficient for my 5.5 gallon set up.
