Review: Best striker I have ever owned! Throws sparks like a champ. - The come with a black coating which is going to rub off so don’t get too upset when you start to see the steel come through. I wish they just shipped as a Ross deal but it will get that way soon enough. I bought this for one reason only which is to spark a fire steel, and for this it excels spectacularly, but it has a few other handy features. Every now and then I do need a small ruler and a hex wrench can also function as a bottle opener. Most strikers I own are a bit small and harder to handle but this one is bigger. Its perfect size for me to get a good grip. Experienced campers know that you hold the striker still and pull the rod away from the fire rather than move the scraper along the rod. This is so you don’t disturb your tender pile or put out the glow with the wind fro your moving hand. It helps to get a good grip on the striker to do this. It’s high quality and sturdy steel with sharp corners. I really don’t use the serrated section. It’s throws more sparks but also takes a heavy toll on the rod. And the layered hole is actually big enough to loop paracord through and you would be surprised at how many strikers and camping equipment in general have lanyard holes far too small for 550. Yea, it’s not going to fit in your Altoids survival tin ( actually it could) but makes a fine addition to my fire kit. On a sidenote I was able to use it as an impromptu fork. And I was thinking about grinding down one of the edges into sharp backup utility knife. Or do this to the hex wrench notch to make it a rope/webbing cutter.
Review: It WORKS!!! - I am an older lady, who has just recently got into camping, and then cause desertcart is just so fun to surf for stuff I don't need, I started gathering things related to camping that could also be useful for survival stuff. I have a lot of time on my hands, thanks to COVID. So, I had ordered bayite rods and one of these Kaeser Striker Scrapers. After doing laundry I had been saving the dryer lint and had made a baggie full of home made fire starters with cotton makeup remover pads swiped thru Vaseline and then had dryer lint stuck to the top. Some friends had a bonfire last night, and I said oh, oh, can I try out my new striker and firestarters, just to see if they really work? Of course! so. I gathered up some twigs and other dry tinder, nestled my home made firestarter in the middle, and began swiping away at the bayite rod. well, I gotta tell you I was so excited, after a couple swipes and adjustments to positioning, I created FIRE!!! I felt like Rocky dancing at the top of the stairs!!! I have never done anything like that before, but I figured I needed to test out my equipment before the Zombie Apocalypse. It works!!! Woo Hoo! I read thru some of the other comments, and I agree, the serrated teeth work, but dig grooves in the bayite, so next time, and there will be a next time!!! I will try using the flat side. Like I will ever use this enough times to wear out the 4 bayite rods I bought. Hmmm, now I need to get three more Kaeser Striker Scrapers!!! I used a length of ceiling fan ball chain to keep them together. Now I actually need to go camping this year....

Not a bad scrapper, works good. Also works well for striker for a ferro rod.
