Brawl will recognize the Battle Pad as a Wii Classic Controller as you need to connect a Wii Remote to the controller. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Great Third Party Gamecube Controller For The Wii U *by J***L on November 24, 2014* I had wanted to pick up a Gamecube controller for Smash and decided to give the HORI Battle Pad a shot. I tried out the controller on a few games for my Wii U (mainly Wii games and Smash of course) and for the most part its almost identical to the Gamecube controller. Despite the triggers not being exactly the same as the original they still work great and its very comfortable in your hand.I tried out the Battle pad for Resident Evil 4 on Wii and its almost near perfect control as the gamecube version, the control stick did feel a little off and doesn't that exact "Clicking sound" but its very minor. After playing it for a bit I became well adjusted to it and almost felt like I was using the real GC controller. As for other Wii games I tried, Naruto CON Revolution 3 and RE Remake they worked great as well with the controller and this is indeed a solid controller to have if you want to play Wii games with a GC controller. I do like that the controller has a home and select button added on to it making navigating through the menus very easy compared to just using the standard controller on the regular Wii.Now for the last games I tried were Wii U games, out of curiosity I tried to play Bayonetta 2 with the GC controller and it did not go well.. The game was clearly not built for the GC controller and I highly recommend not using it for this game unless you want really awkward control. Again this controller was mainly built for Smash Bros so it was expected to be awkward for other games. The other game I tried out for it was Mario Kart 8 and it works fantastic. Control is very smooth and easy to use similar to Double Dash for the original Gamecube. As of now I do not have Smash Bros for Wii U so I can't give an opinion on it but I will update as soon as I pick it up.All in all, this is a fantastic controller for Mario Kart and a lot of Wii games. The buttons despite not being as good as the original GC are high quality and very responsive. It's very comfortable for long gaming sessions and HORI has done a great job emulating the controller itself.I don't really have that many complaints about this controller aside from the buttons feeling a bit weird at first and lack of rumble. Other than those I highly recommend this controller for anyone wanting to use a GC controller for Smash Mario Kart, and a couple Wii games. If you're looking for a controller for Wii U games(excluding smash and mario kart) I would just pick up a Wii U pro controller instead. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A very nice way to play wiiU games! (4/5) *by B***B on December 14, 2014* (Edit)If you're a Serious Smash bros player you should know,some extremely quick movements are not picked up,or are just delayed with this.for most smash4/brawl players it's fine, but for people who need super quick inputs for special techniques,This will NOT work.here's what you need to know:+same form-factor as the old GC controler+great look+sticks and d-pad feel great!+plugs into to the back of your wii-remote and acts as a classic controller/cc pro+has a home +/- and turbo button+officially licensed by nintendo!here's how it differs from a GC controller+it's 33% lighter (noticeable, but still feels solid [measured])+Analog stick has a flat top with circle ridges (unlike the concaved joystick on the real one)+L/R are now digital (they are buttons, and do not slide in like the old ones)+L/R are angled, when pushed they angle downwards like the PS3's L2/R2 but with about 1/3 the amount of moment (not measured)+extra buttons, instead of a start button, you get a -,+, Zl, turbo, and home. (+ acts as as a start button in most cases)+turbo ( I don't need it, but it's nice to have I guess.)+Dpad is skinnier, and longer+wii controller connection on the end, not GC.+Joystick is noticeably lousier then the real one, and the c-stick, feels slightly tighter.My Gripes with this item:-select, start and home are all WAY to close together, and you may end up pressing home instead of start, because of the placement.-L/R, I know they have to be digital, buy they could have made them use the same spring system as the old one, but make it activate the buttons at full compression.-too light! I would have preferred them adding some weights to make it closer to the original, not really a bit deal to most, just a personal thing.-have a turbo-less option.
