I find the series to be remarkably simple, elegant and welcoming to a beginner.The system is simple to understand, and the packaging and presentation is lovely. A nice, feature packed book is accompanied by 2 CD's in a decent box. Following a brief guide to how the system works, and an overview of pronunciation, the book is divided into 10 chapters which feature progressively complex language (Saying Hello >> Asking for Directions >> Ordering Meals etc.). Though this sounds simplistic, the way the course is structured is ideal -- incorporating plenty of useful language to learn around each of these situations. And, of course, you also get a good grounding for travel to Germany. On top of this, there are plenty of tests and activities, and each chapter works in conjunction with the CD perfectly.The bottom line is that this is about as good an introduction to a new language as you can get without instruction. It's not advanced, but the system is simple to learn from, very welcoming and user friendly.
