She's a diehard fan of Gravity Falls, which my Wife and I often watch together with her. It's an interesting change from two of the other books that we've ordered for her, that are related to the show. The Book of Bill - she's a huge Bill Cipher fan. And Journal #3, which is also terrific, although some pages are a bit tricky for her to read. But this book really hits the nail on the head. It's jam-packed with so much stuff from the show. But unlike the other books, it's got so much stuff that's true to Mabel, you can tell they put their time and effort into this. Awesome illustrations, really funny content, and the poster is just the icing on the cake. For a while it was hard to find books that really encouraged our Daughter to read more. But this really made a positive difference. It's not just that our Daughter likes the type of material. Because we've gotten her books related to other shows that she enjoyed. It's just that the Gravity Falls team put together a fun, interactive book that she will pick up again and again. It's what, twelve bucks? You've got that. It's hard to get a large pizza for that price. I think we spend more on a single fast food drive-through trip. Yet those are things that you get to enjoy once. This is a book that your child will own and enjoy for years. Not to mention, it will get them to unplug from the electronics and games for a while, and actually read. So when you're finished reading this review, your next move should be to add this to your shopping cart and then check out. When you see the smile on your child's face as they crack the book open, you'll realize it was the best twelve bucks you've spent all year. It's stuffed to the brim with lore, facts, codes, activities, and silliness. Everyone's written in-character and I appreciate that new art was made for parts of the book. While it's no Journal 3, it organizes existing Gravity Falls knowhow from the point of view of Dipper and Mabel (even some new info that hasn't been mentioned in the show yet!). If you've enjoyed pausing the show for funny/mysterious details, then you'll love catching all the little goodies in here. Though Alex isn't credited as one of the writers, he approved the book himself and added in some of his ideas, so you know it's legit. By the way, the ciphers people have been finding in the show are now officially revealed by Dipper in the section about Secret Codes. I really appreciate that they're letting these codes be more accessible to kids now, because at first it was only the online community that really talked about the ciphers hidden throughout the show. There's even a decoder wheel you can cut out for the Caeser cipher! This is exactly the kind of book I would have LOVED as a kid (and currently love as an adult). I don't want to spoil anything, but reading through it feels like watching an episode, with just as many laughs and gasps as the show it's based off of. Now I just need to buy two more for my siblings.
