I had tried using more shampoo, less shampoo, "for oily hair" shampoo, and different brands, but every single time it just kept drying to look as oily as before I had washed it. I resorted to applying dry shampoo to my hair after washing and drying it because it was the only thing that could make it look normal. I thought maybe I had some sort of scalp gland condition after consulting the internet, so I tried washing my hair in cold water, drying my hair with the "cool" shot on the blow dryer... these things helped a little, but not much. I read another recommendation to try a "clarifying" shampoo, and Neutrogena is a brand that I already liked, so I gave this product a try. Turns out I just had a build-up of hair care product residue, and my hair was so soft and silky once it was finally clear of all that gunk. Shampoos designed to "add" nutrients or whatever features to my hair was contributing to the problem of making it look oily. Even though dry shampoo was the only thing that could make it LOOK less greasy, it was actually making the problem worse. I would not personally use this product for every wash or recommend doing so because my hair stylist mentioned that it is stripping the hair of oil and nutrients. After all, the oils and nutrients added by the other products were not hurting my hair, just making me look gross. Using a clarifying shampoo too much may cause the opposite effect of hair becoming too dry, brittle, staticky. It works really great to use once every week or two to keep your hair from getting gunked up with too many oils and give it a break from non-beneficial styling product residue. I still use dry shampoo in between normal shampoo washes to avoid the urge to over-wash, and then just use this awesome product every so often to make sure I have gotten all of the dry shampoo residue washed out.

It apparently includes grapefruit to entice the folks that love the idea of "green" and organic, and according to the reviews of it, the scent is quite strong, so I have to reject it. I won't buy a grapefruit-scented shampoo. The only scent I like in hair products is lavender, a lemon scent as in the 1970s, or a true coconut smell, which is not easy to find. I have always smelled a shampoo or conditioner before I buy it if I am unfamiliar with the product. Any hint of that horrid green apple or any other fruity scents, or that awful peppermint smell that you find in nearly all the Tea Tree shampoos (which actually stings my scalp, and I'm NOT talking about the Tea Tree oil, just the mint, which I'm allergic to), and I'm outa there. Sigh. One of many items that have been great but have been discontinued. I haven't found another clarifying shampoo that does what this one did. A: This is an interesting question.My understanding is it removes the residue of product build-up as a "clarifying" shampoo.  To remove hard water mineral build-up in the hair, it would need to be a "chelating" shampoo.  Chelating shampoos are specifically designed to prevent and remove mineral buildup in your hair. A chelating agent will chemically bind to minerals, removing them before you even have a chance to notice that they're there. Some shampoo companies throw around words like "clarifying," "chelating," and "neutralizing," so to be sure you're using the right product, look for one that has the ingredient EDTA. **Q: Do you use regular conditioner after shampooing with the clarifying shampoo?**
A: This shampoo has been so incredible that I no longer use conditioner. My wavy think hair combs out easily without and is very silky.

**Q: My hair becomes oily by the end of the day. Would this help prevent acne, and my hair from becoming oily?**
A: This is a clarifying shampoo. It is NOT recommended to use more than once a week as it can dry your hair and make it brittle. If you have oily hair, I recommend you wash your hair every other day ( meaning wash one day but not the next then wash again but not the next day and so on).  If you read the instructions on the bottle, it also states that this is a cleansing shampoo and should be used less often than you would a regular every day shampoo.

Love this ant-residue clarifying shampoo because it actually cured the problem of hair looking greasy no matter how many times I washed it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great

The first picture is taken after my hair air-dried after I used this shampoo. The second picture is after my hair air-dried after I used my regular shampoo, the OGX volumizing shampoo. My hair is always frizzy even if I glue it to my head with hairspray, so just ignore that. My hair is fine - not thin, I have lots of it, the follicles just aren't thick - so I use volumizing shampoo to give my ED hair a lift and make it have a little more bounce and shine. This Neutrogena shampoo does a great job cleaning off the build-up and it smells really nice. I got it 25 September and I use it every Sunday to refresh my hair. If my hair has too much buildup, I'll use it again the next day or again sometime in the week. I've also used it twice in one day for excess buildup or gunk and it works really nicely like that too. I've not noticed any damage to my hair outside of my own poor hair care routine. I don't know what reaction some people are having to the ingredients, but I've not had any problems. I honestly love it. No damage to my hair or any hair loss, doesn't weigh it down, doesn't burn, itch, or sting, it removes the buildup, it smells great, and my hair is super soft when it's all dry. I highly recommend if you want to get rid of the buildup.
