Discovered the defrost timer was defunct. It was a 35 minute every 12 hour timer. The WR9X483 is a 30 minute timer every 10 hours, but since I live in Spain it is running on 50 cycle voltage. Since the cycles are slower the timer runs longer, and just happens to run 35 minutes every 12 hours. Perfect. The timer is compact, requires no ground wire, and it's contacts are fully compatible with the defrost heaters and compressor motor.
