You simply can't beat Marino wool - not cotton, not any blend, not any synthetic, not even silk can match the blend of durability, comfort, temperature regulation, moisture control, quick drying, ease of washing, and long-term odor control for extended hikes / camping, etc. I have heard every argument, tried every other type of fiber. High end synthetics match or exceed in some areas, but fabric treatments and other such trickery eventually wears off. Marino wool starts, continues, and stays as good as the day you got it, until it literally wears to the point that it falls off your body. The stuff is relatively expensive on a per pair basis.
