Review: while I was on them my stomach didn't feel good in many different ways - I have suffered through 10 years of heartburn. I would eat, burp, and burn. The docs kept putting me on proton pump inhibitors which kept the heartburn away while I was on them. However, while I was on them my stomach didn't feel good in many different ways. I started taking one tablet of this with meals. The first day my stomach felt a little warm when I took them, but not painful and no heart burn. (and yes I had the tums on stand-by just in case.) I can now say that I am three days with no heartburn, no tums, no pump inhibitors. I can eat pain free for the first time in a decade.

A: They’re a standard average size capsule.

**Q: Are the capsules very small?**
A: No they are rather large

**Q: What is the source of the pepsin? Is it porcine?**
A: Hi. Although much of pepsin is made from porcine products, the pepsin in Swanson's Betaine HCL is a trademarked vegan-sourced formula, VegPeptase.

**Q: Does this still contain rice flour? I dont see it on the current lable, but i checked the description on amazon and its different than the label.**
A: I just checked the Swanson website and there is NO rice flour listed in the ingredients.
(The bottle I purchased in 2018 DOES list it.)

I can now say that I am three days with no heartburn, no tums, no pump inhibitors. I can eat pain free for the first time in a decade.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fine product but just too high mg. for me

This is a helpful product for many people however it was a little too strong for my needs - which is just a sometimes sluggish digestion. I would take 1 capsule of these with a meal (containing meat) and sometimes if I didn't drink plenty of water with it OR if I took it too close to bedtime, I would wake up with a slightly nauseous stomach (not fun at 2am.) This product contains 325 mg of Betaine HCL per capsule, along with Pepsin. Hydrochloric Acid is actually a component of our gastric juices but as we age or take certain meds or whatever, our body doesn't make it sufficiently so then we can get a digestive situation where we might burp a lot or get acid reflux or a full feeling after eating very little. I think a little Hydrochloric Acid can help with this but we need to find our own personal optimal dosage. In the past I've taken a Swanson product called Digestive Enzymes which contained only 5 mg of Betaine HCL and that never gave me problems, so I'll most likely return to that. There's also a really popular enzyme product by NOW called Super Enzymes and that contains 200 mg of Betaine HCL which I've taken successfully. I'm not sure why I decided to up the dosage but I now know 325 mg is too much for my own needs.
