Is this true for Ibarra?** A: This is the “Mexican hot chocolate” a lot of families grew up with. You always make it with milk. I’m sure you can use water but you’re ruining the overall flavor. If you want to go vegan use coconut milk instead. Do yourself a favor though and go look up the recipe online. Real Mexican Hot Chocolate has a little picante in it. Some cayenne pepper and a dash of chili powder. Fresh cinnamon garnished with a cinnamon stick and chocolate shavings, even marshmallows if you like. Base ingredients are baking cocoa, brown sugar, milk, cinnamon, and grated bittersweet chocolate.
