It's point but not sharp. Not really sharpen-able. It can slice paper and tape to open packages but that's about it.. The Kydex sheath has metal fasteners. I was able to pick it up with my metal detector set to medium sensitivity. I guess one can drill them out and use some type of plastic fastener or crazy glue to keep the sheath together. If you're looking for something to fly below the radar, take a look at the Rapala Ceramic Utility Knife. It's a real blade and holds an edge.
