This disinfects, softens, and color fasts the material. I then laundered with my normal detergent and softener then tumble dried on low heat. I had zero fading or bleeding and the softness is what you would expect from this type of blanket.It was purchased for our motorhome and, as most of our excursions are in the Southwest, the lightweight is perfect. If you are looking for a true patchwork quilt this is not for you. When the weather turns cold, we use an electric blanket. I ordered a king for my queen size bed. It is an excellent fit; the sides overlap the side rales a bit and the length can overlap the foot, but I've chosen to have it just touch. Our bed is very high (11.25" clearance between floor and bottom of side rails) and mattresses are thick (22 1/2"). Our house is very small and store suitcases beneith the bed - I do not use a bedskirt (they get in my way) so sorry about the clutter. The colors are as they appear in the ad.
