## Overview

The StarTech.com 3-Port Multi Monitor Adapter is a Mini DisplayPort to triple DisplayPort MST hub designed exclusively for Windows PCs and laptops. It supports up to two 4K monitors at 30Hz plus one 1080p monitor at 60Hz, enabling extended or duplicate desktop modes. With native MST technology, it offers a driverless, plug-and-play experience that maximizes GPU efficiency for uncompressed video output. Ideal for professionals seeking to expand their digital workspace with a compact, reliable, and high-resolution multi-monitor solution.

## Description

This MST hub lets you connect three DisplayPort monitors to your Mini DisplayPort computer. MST works on any Windows® device that supports DisplayPort 1.2, such as models of the Lenovo™ Think Pad® and Microsoft® Surface™. When connected to earlier revisions of DisplayPort, such as DP 1.1 the MST hub acts as a video splitter. Increase your productivity with multiple monitors The newest generations of laptops are more portable than ever, unfortunately this means you're left with fewer video outputs and a small integrated screen. The MST hub solves these problems by letting you connect three independent displays to a single mDP port on your computer, which makes multitasking much easier. Using the MST hub, you can extend your desktop onto additional monitors and stream independent content to each display, which makes it easier to multitask and increase your productivity - perfect for creating an easy-to-dock hot desk solution with a wireless keyboard and mouse peripheral set. You can also mirror the same image onto multiple displays for remote viewing applications such as digital signage. Astonishing picture quality that won't drain your system resources MST technology uses your existing video card to minimize the use of system resources while delivering Ultra HD 4K resolutions. 4K is supported by the latest A/V devices and delivers four times the resolution of 1080p. Plus, because the MST hub can output high-definition 1080p, the MST hub is perfect for all high-resolution applications such as graphic design and medical imaging. Works with any monitor, television or projector With this MST hub, you can use separate mDP video adapters to connect HDMI, VGA or DVI displays, for compatibility with all of your existing monitors. The hub is VESA and DisplayPort certified to support DP 1.2 enabled systems, for seamless integration with your existing video equipment. The MSTMDP123DPhas been certified by Microsoft and tested for compatibility with your Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book and is backed by a 3-year StarTech.com warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Review: Working like a charm with Surface Pro 3 i5 and Asus Monitors - I wanted to connect two monitors I have to my Surface Pro 3. After doing a research, I found out that there are few dependencies to get to extend your SP3 to 2 additional screens, one of them is the model of the SP3 you have. Anyway, after buying this, I managed to connect my 2 ASUS monitors using a DisplayPort -> HDMI cables. These cables were connected to this piece of Mini Display Port that I bought from desertcart and it's working well. Now, when I bought this piece, I wanted to use it for my SP3 as well as for me MacBook Air. That being said, it did not work with MacBook Air which I have. After doing a research, I found out there are few elements a person should research before buying or investing in such a piece. 1. Make sure your graphics card is capable of extending into few additional monitors and the resolution it can extend into to. (It was important for me to get the SP3 to extend at 1920*1080 on both 27" monitors. Without a graphics card that can do that, this piece may not be able to give achieve this. 2. Make sure your get the right cables. I got this piece and I overlooked the fact it is Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort converter, I "assumed" it was to HDMI. Nonetheless, I managed to go to a local shot and instead of buying DisplayPort to HDMI converters, I invested in 2 DisplayPort to HDMI converters. Some of the cables I tried at the shop were faulty and hence after trying 5, we managed to find 2 that were working. 3. Finally, make sure the graphics card driver is up to date. Check the driver website of your monitor manufacture and download/install the latest drivers. Good luck!
Review: Usually Problems with this device are related to O/S - So I have been using this product for about 2 years on my Microsoft Surface Pro. At first, it worked and then sporadically didn't. Very frustrating, but it never really seemed to be a problem with the device. What it is doing is fairly simple and it seemed more of a Windows problem. Low and behold it was. Windows went through several patches to support upgrading its Mini Display Port capabilities. When 10 came out, everything quit working but soon thereafter a couple of patches the MST is working great and I can say that I have had no issues for about a year. Very happy with the product and glad I stayed with it. Would recommend it, but not for a novice just for the simple fact that there can be some O/S complications that need to be worked through.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Newer Version Works with Surface Pro 3
*by L***D on September 12, 2014*

UPDATE 11/20/2015 Barry Watson in Product Improvement did send me another one of these MST Hubs with the new chips and I am happy to report that with a few configuration settings in Windows 8.1 it does indeed work with my Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The setup allows me to have an Asus 24in on the left, my surface in the middle and another Asus on the right. Which allows me to have three desktops. If you are a buyer consider these things first. 1.) Go to the display settings and configure the positions of the display. The identify tool will show you which display corresponds with the number. 2) Pick the display under each corresponding monitor in the setup and pick the monitor model. (This sounds silly but you will see) That should fix the problem. 3) Before returning it try and call StarTech. They sent me a new one because of the reason above. As far as the Apple issue it will work with my MacBook Pro but the con is that it is only a mirror of the desktop on both displays. StarTech says Apple doesn't officially support MST yet. I just purchased a Surface Pro 3 with an Intel i5 Processor. Before purchasing I had done tons of research on the best solution for my dual Asus Monitors. I contacted StarTech and through the chat, the adviser told me that my Surface Pro supports Multi Stream Transport(MST) which is needed for this hub. He also said it is supported on my Early 2013 MacBook Pro. So I ordered the cables that they recommended which were $30 each and were DisplayPort to DVI. I got charged for the cables first then waited weeks to get the product because it was on back order. Finally when they got more after a week of waiting I was told they don't have any more. So I decided to order it from the retailer on Amazon. I tried first plugging this into my Mac. It only detected one monitor. So I was able to extend to one monitor and the other monitor was mirrored. I was told by StarTech that I would be able to extend to both monitors. Next I tried my Surface Pro 3. Even worse it only picked up 1 monitor and the other wouldn't work. I've looked at all the settings and it still doesn't detect. I simply returned the product to the retailer in Canada and am taking the 25% restocking fee as a hit for a product that many people complained doesn't work. I Googled some forums and they suggest a port replicator with an HDMI and USB Adapter.
