When I press the volume up on my Bose remote the input on the device changes. Really annoying. I have 3 hdmi ports on my Samsung tv. One for the hdmi arc for my soundbar, one for my Series x which has to be used with the hdmi 2.1 connection to get 120hz and the last one for this device hub so I can use my Xbox one x,my laptop my ps4 pro and my gaming pc. If you are going to use with a universal tv remote that controls multiple devices I would recommend searching for an alternative. In addition to a soundbar and HDTV, I have a pair (and this is the important part) of Sony MDR-DS6500 Digital Wireless 3D Surround Headphones which are completely and totally awesome, but the HD input is an optical TOSlink port (with an RF output from the base to the headphones for superior sound... Bluetooth headphones can't touch this, cannot output Surround (even simulated) and aren't as robust for cinema viewing... this is perhaps getting better with time and technology advancement, but for now it kinda sucks mainly because I had just gotten an Apple TV update (from version 3 hockey puck to the 4K model) and though the old model I had was TOSlink ready (output), the new model was not... HDMI only. That would be fine if only for the headphones issue which I rely on sometimes for nighttime viewing when others are asleep. I needed a splitter... something that would output HDMI (arc) for the soundbar and also output TOSlink optical for the headphones. Finding this HDMI/optical switch was terrific... seemed to solve the problem completely. It was easy to order, shipped fast and was easy to hookup with my existing devices. That said, it can be tricky to use. I had to patch the Apple TV 4K along with a PS3 and a cable box with an HDMI output through the splitter and also split out the optical signal. This product had all the ports I needed (basically works like others you can find on Amazon, I took a chance on this one because it looked the least hinky). Sometimes there are signal issues, and it is an additional burden that works primarily by remote... lose the remote or destroy it somehow, and you've lost the ability to fully control the splitter. When it works it works great... HD 1080p looks fine (I don't have a 4K TV, the Apple upgrade was to future proof in anticipation of a new set), and HD audio sounds terrific. The splitter offers 2 channel and 5.1 channel sound only, which is fine unless you're a gamer with 7.1 cans. It has a dedicated S/PDIF button to toggle (just another name for TOSlink/optical digital sound capability) on or off. Sometimes it can be a bit of a pain switching between devices, the buttons seem to communicate fine with the little box, but occasionally there's no action (no switching between devices, or no signal or signal dropout when a device is on until another device is turned on... weird), but hey, it mostly works 90% of the time without issues.
