Yes a 3v battery would work but you would have to replace the battery occasionally depending on how often you illuminated the lights. A better solution is to use a 12 volt DC power supply with a 1000 ohm resistor for each light when you wire them up. Remember that LEDs are polarity sensitive and must have the (+) power lead to the (+) LED lead and negative power lead to the (-) LED lead. Use a check set (OHM meter) to determine the proper polarity of the power source.
