Her countertops in the kitchen are probably, after some renovation, about 20 years old (the complex was built in 1978). Unfortunately, the white vinyl tops of the counters stain very easily. Everything stains them and it takes bleach diluted with water to completely clean them. That's risky: too much bleach in a particular spot will turn it yellow. When the mats arrived I spread them out on the counter. Nothing stains these mats! They are heavy-duty, feel and look impressive, and clean up the most stubborn stains with the swipe of a wash cloth (tea, coffee, wine, golden seal, and tamarack--to date). I am so happy I ordered these. I only wish that they came in patterns like autumn leaves, ocean beaches, etc. That would be perfection! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice, but ... *by M***F on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2019* Overall, these are nice, but ... there are groves in the placemats that make them difficult to keep clean (requires a toothbrush like cleaning tool) and the care instructions warn against 'directly' rinsing these using water (?) to avoid shape damage.
