Place in portions in ziploc bags, squeeze out all the air. It will keep a couple of months, depending on what your horse needs. I also used mine for sugar free cookies (cushings). I may also add that if you grind your own flax, it will keep its nutrients longer...when it arrives ground, it may not be as potent as fresh ground. **Q: how many days does the 8lbs last for 1 horse getting 1oz once a day?** A: 8lbs has 128 ounces. This is an excellent product and worth every penny. Outstanding results in my horses' health, coat, and hooves. **Q: I am struggling to remove the lid! Is there another product that comes in a sealed bag? Also dont like all the plastic waste from the bucket.....** A: I know that lid is ridiculous. Did you find something else in a bag? **Q: How is this product treated so it doesn’t spoil? Fresh ground flaxseed will spoil in a few days** A: Simply Flax is milled using a relatively gentle rolling process. One way I think about it is that the flaxseed is “torn” versus “smashed”. As a result of this rolling process, the vesicles which contain the oil remain largely intact, thereby not exposing the oil to oxygen. Exposure of the oil to oxygen is what leads to oxidative rancidity, giving the product that off aroma.
