It stays a long time. I originally put it over a lighter red copper highlight. I didn’t care for the color that my colorist did so I purchased this product. I was amazed with the deep reddish mahogany color. I initially put it on dry hair and let it sit for an hour (only because I was on the phone). The color was beautiful and completely covered the prior highlight. There after about once every few weeks, I mix the remaining portion of the bottle and my conditioner while I was in the shower and let it sit there for five minutes and that worked awesome.
