Any of the units can act as the "hub". They are identical in size, features, etc. Whichever one you choose to hook to your incoming internet connect, that one will then be what you would consider the hub. Don't think of these like the standard router and extenders, where the router is controlling everything. Any of these can serve that purpose. Just plug one into your internet connection, and place the others where they receive the best signal back to the main unit/each other. The app will help you with placement.
