There was always a bit of a chemical smell with it and I noticed that it did deteriorate some of my older clothes. I just thought there were other options. I recently purchased seventh generation free and clear. Actually I had used AI and that's where it had been recommended as being the detergent that most met my criteria. It does a great job of cleaning but there is nothing after but a very fresh smell. My clothes are all soft in a way that I have not known before. What is also very cool as I have a front loading washing machine. Every month or so I've needed to put a cleanser through it so that the light of odor would go away. I have been using this detergent for two months and there is zero odor in my front loading machine. I am a definite customer for this brand and this product.
