Electricity travels over long distances better on heavier wire. If you try the 100/16 and it works well and does not blow a circuit breaker it will probably be OK but that is not a guarantee. I would not plug the zapper into a circuit that has a heavy load on it like a refrigerator or air conditioner. If the zapper is out in the elements be sure to tape the plugs that are exposed to water with electrical tape. Each situation is different but check to be sure you don't have extra heat when you touch the cord or the plugs.
