Is it a reciprocating pump, a tube within a tube with valves opening and closing as the piston changes direction, so water flows continuously? No, it's not that sophisticated. It's merely a one-way valve at the bottom, a one-way gasket on the plunger; the outlet at the top is wide open. What it is is robust. The plunger shaft is aluminum tubing of a diameter that doesn't appreciably flex, the housing is polycarbonate or some such material, also thick and rigid, leaving less empty space between them for water than might first appear reasonable. Good news is that strong and precise manufacture make the action quick and easy without taxing the motor (that's you), so water moves at a good rate. Like any good tool, it's worth being careful with this pump, but it works well and should work a long time. I have no experience, yet, but the ability to disassemble the pump and replace parts is maybe its best feature.Incidentally, the included mud foot is also well-designed, and protects the intake valve both from grit and knocks. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, Faulty piece part *by R***Y on Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2019* Worked great for the first few times until the rubber valve disconnected from the metal rod/handle.
