The bead gets stuck in the vent when you try to blow through it leaving you with a choked wheeze instead of a shrill whistle. I can't get the striker to make a single spark, the mirror is foggy, the cap on the waterproof compartment cross-threads easily, and it's difficult to tell if the compass is floating properly when using it. Not sure if the waterproof compartment is actually waterproof but I have my doubts. One will understand a sad irony in the name of this product if they try to use this whistle for survival. ### ⭐⭐⭐ More of a novelty than an actual survival tool. *by A***H on Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2019* I definitely would not rely on this for survival, it's really more of a toy. That said, I purchased it for our Cub Scouts Webelos den, and it will work well. When the kids are out hiking in city parks with adults, this is perfect. It will teach the Scouts responsibility to remember to pack it in their hiking packs, but if it breaks, it's not a big deal.When they cross over to Scouts BSA and start hiking in larger parks and doing more camping, I will buy much better quality whistles with extras.I purchased 6. The mirrors on all of them have come unglued, and the caps are difficult to screw back on. I expect I'll need to help the Scouts replace the caps a lot. The compass doesn't seem very accurate, but will work as a great training tool for the Scouts to at least find approximate N, E, S, and W. Don't rely on it for much more than that. I haven't quite figured out how you are supposed to use the strike area to start a fire; it's just a piece of plastic.
