It does heat up pretty hot, but sometimes it takes a while and sometimes it doesn't, and there's no real indicator besides just waiting and testing and waiting and testing. It came with a plastic cover for the heating element but the packaging is all in a different language so it's not clear if it's a heat-resistant one. Also, the tool itself is so lightweight and the cord so heavy in comparison, it makes it a little awkward to use. If you need a high heat gun style tool, it makes way more sense to just shell out a little bit more to get a real one!
