    Awesome sound!

*by S***T on Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2009*

Summary:Pros - Good construction, AWESOME sound (good lows, clear upper range), protects music player, good bass, no noticeable distortion.Cons - $40 is a bit high, especially if you add $10 more for 4 rechargeable AAAs, but with these types of speakers you get what you pay for.The iMainGo2 surprised me with great sound quality. I agonized betweeen the iMainGo2 and the

. I have lots of speakers at home, and have done a lot of tinkering.I ended up going with this one because it has a class D digital amplifier and titanium drivers. Also, it has L and R drivers, as opposed to just one. Soundstage is small, but it is there.I don't understand the mixed reviews, because it sounds amazing. The "Bass porting" DOES work; you can hear the bass well, just don't expect a subwoofer. It even comes with 4 Energizer AAAs! They've been powering it at near-top volume for several hours, with no decrease in sound quality or volume... so I can't comment on battery life. Some things to know about the iMainGo2:-the clear vinyl touch screen window is fairly soft and has an excellent feel, and is almost tacky, in a good way. The player won't slip around inside. It also helps the unit to not slip around on a dashboard, etc.-there's a memory foam insert to cushion the back of your player, and a black plastic plate goes behind it, and the adjustable velcro strap goes over that.-overall build quality is stellar. I can't stress that enough.-Most of the case interior is hard plastic (covered in nice no-scratch felt), i.e. there's not mcuh extra room in there for headphones or other things.-It's designed around the iPhone/Touch, but accomodates most mp3 players, including most zunes (except my 1st-gen Zune brick, which is long enough that the headphone jack ).-The power indicator light is very bright green, but is wisely placed inside by the switch, so the speaker can be used in the dark.-The sound is somewhat directional, just something to know.My one minor complaint is that the audio-in cord (3.5mm headset-style jack, ~10cm cord) enters the plastic where it is under the zipper when the unit is closed. This may cause it to wear more quickly, but perhaps not.Overall, great portable speaker. Worth the money. Hope this helps :)

    Great portable speakers, limited options

*by R***T on Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2011*

4 stars: Great portability, few features, nice design.I am an electronic geek, professional photographer and sound junkie. I travel a lot and use multiple computers and devices so i am always looking for the ultimate portable speaker system for a low cost and great sound. This unit is almost perfect. I do not own an ipod, i bought this for various mp3 players, devices & laptops.SOUND QUALITY: The quality of the sound is pretty good, it will not blow you away but it's great. It will fill a small room with no problems. If you are in a wide open area the sound will be a little faint. There is distortion when volume is 100%, so you will probably keep it between 50%-90%, depending on what your playing.

AmazonBasics Portable Stereo System for MP3 Players (Black)

I also just recently purchased the amazon basics speakers (wide single speaker with on/off switch and volume on the top, purchased for around $15) and would like to compare the two.The sound quality of the two are pretty similar, so the things to look at are the features. If you are using an iPod, you may want to get the iMainGo because it doubles as a case and it has a clear plastic cover that you can use to access and use your ipod while it is in the case. This is great if you want to use this on the go with your ipod, you can carry it in a pocket, attach it to yourself or a bag you are carrying or keep it in your purse. The case/speaker will protect your device from water, it COULD save your device. The amazon basics speakers on the other hand are great for laptops and portability. The imaingo only takes 4 aa batteries, while the amazon speakers take the same 4 aa batteries, but ALSO allows you to power the speakers with a built in USB cord! This is just great. You can use this with a computer, batteries, or a wall outlet when you have a very basic and cheap usb wall charger (under a $1, comes free with so many devices). The amazon speakers also has a convenient volume control on the top, something the imaingo does not have. Both speakers have the audio cable built into the speakers, although the amazon basics cord is MUCH more thin and looks like it will break very very easily. So the choice is yours, enjoy these lovely speakers, but don't pay over $30 for them! I would recommend anything under $20 for either speakers.

Fragile and hard to use - especially for special needs

*by D***D on Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2010*

The sound quality and idea behind this device is great, human factors engineering...not so much.To begin with, the battery insertion is perhaps the worst of any device I have ever seen. The batteries have lay horizontally in two rows of two batteries each. You have to maneuver the batteries around the fragile springs to get them into and out of the tiny compartment. Plan on the springs breaking within a month or so. The battery case does have fabric straps designed to make it easier to pull the batteries out, but it pulls the bottom batteries out directly into the springs of the top batteries. Again, plan on the battery case springs breaking within a month or so.This device is marketed heavily towards the special needs community, particularly those with autism who use iPods as communication devices. Inasmuch as there is frequently a correlation between this disability and fine motor skill deficiencies, this battery design is inexplicable. It is a challenge for an experienced adult to change the batteries, let alone a special needs child. In addition, our power light failed within a week of beginning to use the device. Although this implies poor construction quality, it did at least make it so I have to change the batteries less frequently, since without the light, there's less power drawn. That being said, I'll give credit where credit is due. The sound quality is good, and the case seems to be quite protective of the iPod within it.
