It quickly browns the meat within minutes and gets very hot. You can hear the meat sizzling. I was able to buy the butane at a local hardware store for only $4. I have used the torch for about 15 minutes and there is still plenty of butane left in the can. You need to buy the butane cans with the ring around the top of the can. The torch has a lip that installs onto that ring.
