Rotary convertors were a little on the steep side as well as phase invertors. This guy works great. The directions are pretty good, but might a little vague for someone with who's not an electrician or has knowledge of 3 phase power, phase rotation etc. But even then, its something they should not be attempting if that's the case. I ran a dedicated 20amp 240v circuit for it and put a 2 pole disconnect in front of it. As most digital convertors and VFD's create phase interference and distortion on the lines without filters. So the disconnect stops any of that when not in use. Then put it on a 3 pole contactor with 120v coil so the mill head gets no power unless for immediate use. Then from the contactor to the drum switch on the mill head. Make sure the phasing is correct for the rotation so when the drum switch is put into low range it spins correctly and the same in high range. Had it installed now for like 5 months now and runs great. Also make sure you get the right size for your motor load. Getting one of these too small, will over drive the unit and burn it out. Getting one too large will underdrive the DPS and not create the ideal 3rd phase sine wave. The unit creates the 3rd phase immediately after the motor is turned on. Rotary convertors were a little on the steep side as well as phase invertors. This guy works great. But this one with the recommended size works very well, I run it for 10 minutes without loud and no heat, I cut 50 cuts in peace of hard maple the motor shows no significant heat.
