Mice eat the kernels and leave the outer husk. I've also noticed that slugs like them. It took a couple of weeks for the rat problem to clear and I had to bag up the dead rats to dispose of them before the local wildlife were poisoned by eating the dead rats. As the bags from my neighbour worked fine I have not needed to open any more bags yet. I will keep the bags I bought in a safe place just in case the problem comes back or my neighbour needs some as we live next to a field the rats may come back again.
