They are actually absorbent for the wet messes the puppies make. I have to wash and dry them daily and so far they have held up over many washes, which is great because I'm saving money on disposable pads and I honestly think they work better because they absorb whereas the cheap disposables messes just sort of lay on top. While they aren't the most pretty to look at, they are very functional. They are stiff to the touch, not extremely soft, BUT they stay in place well and work for puppy messes.
