Waste of money
I normally do not leave negative or even mediocre reviews, but this book was so BAD I just had to! It deserves zero stars. The book is written for a 5 yr old comprehension level. Its almost insulting! The font is very large to take up space on the page. If used a normal font size this would be a short pamphlet. Ch 1 starts off with a reasonable discussion of kidney stone types and risk factors. Same info I already read on my brief web search but that’s ok. But it’s all downhill from there. Ch 3: lifestyle stuff- exercise, stay hydrated, loose weight, limit alcohol, manage stress, see your doctor. 3 pages on : meditate, deep breath, progressive muscle relaxation, yoga, tai chi, aromatherapy and get a massage. Clearly the author has never had a kidney stone or even seen anyone during one! Ch 2 stone friendly foods is written in a paragraph style. Ch 4 stone food list is the identical information in list format. Some of the information is erroneous- spinach and kale are both High oxalate food, yet it is on the book’s list as ok. The information is also contradictory- spinach, chocolate and nuts are listed as bad, yet later in another chapter these are ok. There is even a recipe for trail mix with chocolate and nuts! The “recipes” in general are a joke. See my included photos from the book.for example: vegetable sticks and hummus: 1. Cut up carrots into sticks. 2.Serve with hummus dip.Example: Apple slices with almond butter- 1. Slice apples 2. Spread almond butter on apple slice.Example: popcorn with nutritional yeast- 1. Pop corn 2. Sprinkle nutritional yeast on it. (What even is nutritional yeast and where would I get it?)Example: grilled turkey burgers with sweet potato wedges. 1. Grill turkey burgers. 2. Serve in buns with sweet potato wedges.ARE YOU KIDDING ME ???I learned more about kidney stone management/ prevention thru diet modification of oxalates in foods just by my brief iPhone web search. After surviving a kidney stone attack that lasted 5 days, I am more than willing to adjust my diet to reduce my risk of another stone! This book is an absolute joke- total waste of money. Thank you Amazon for allowing me to return it.
