On 1st plug in and turning it on, 2 or 3 wires weren't glowing red and it smoked a little bit while it burned the coating off the wires. But after running it 3-4 times before putting anything in it, it heats up normally and does a great job. I like the size of the machine itself. It's not overly bulky. The dial for the 7 different cook settings cook toast and bagels quick and evenly.
