I think Ball actually make most of the jars people call Mason jars. **Q: I want to use these for ginger beer which is too fizzy to do in ordinary glass kilner bottles - it does tend to blow them. Would this work?** A: Ginger beer is not so much. The reason is that beer foams up a bunch during fermentation so you would have to leave a lot of "head space" or that foam (krausen) would spray out of the top, or clog the valve and explode the jar. IF you had a really large jar and only filled it 1/2 way or so you would probably be fine. But truthfully it's kind of a waste to deal with less that a couple of gallons of beer at a shot.
