Howerver, the first time I used it, the number I was getting from an old RO membrane were 350ish. I thought for sure the meter was in error. I then opened a bottle of filtered water and tested that. The bottled water reading was 12 so I think the meter is very accurate. I have since replaced the RO membrane and my numbers are in the high 20s to low 30s. I hope this helps. I would highly recommend this tester - it’s a great buy. **Q: Is there a minimum amount of water that can be tested?** A: I just put some water in a cup and put end of TDS gauge in, no more than inch. By the way, the best water will test 0. I use a zero water pitcher. I use this to check if new filter is needed. I hope this helped you. **Q: does it test ph?** A: No, it test for TDS in PPM (parts per million). The reading is taken from the EC reading and converted within the unit to TDS. This is the accumulation of all dissolved solids in your water. But what conversion factor is used by this company? A 5.0 conversion will have different reading than one with a 7.1 conversion factor. Makes a difference. Learning to read EC is best option along with a tester that reads EC and PPM. No calibration on some. To test your pH you can use the paper strips, General Hydroponics sells a pH Test Kit that includes testing solution along with pH Up and pH down for adjusting your pH to your requirements if you are into gardening. Very fast and easy to use. There are a number of pH test pens on the market. Most need calibration and calibration solutions that is a consumable. There are different calibration factors on these as well. But easier to use and more accurate once you learn it. **Q: At what reading should the filter/cartridge be changed?** A: Your filter and cartridge should be change every 30 days , if your ppm reading over 300 you may need do some water change , also test for nitrite , nitrate and ammonia . under 300 ppm you are OK , should be around 150 ppm to 250 ppm , but not over 400 ppm . usually do 10% water change every month or twice a month depend on how many fishes or shrimps you have. It works great every time. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It Seems To Work *by on Reviewed in the United States May 13, 2022* I got this to test the different levels of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) between direct tap water provided by my municipality, bottled "smart" water purchased in a store, and filtered tap water using a carbon filter used in a typical filtered water dispenser. I expected the purchased bottled "smart" water to have the lowest TDS levels and it did not.I expected the filtered tap water to have a higher TDS level than the bottled "smart" water but it did not.To my surprise, the filtered tap water had the lowest total TDS level of all.Summary:1 - Tap water had the highest TDS level,2 - Bottled "smart" water had the next highest TSD level,3 - Filtered tap water had the lowest TDS levelsIt would have been an interesting experiment to take the bottled "smart" water and put it through the carbon filter and see if its TDS level would be lower than the filtered tap water but I didn't extend the experiment to that step.In any case, whether your results are the same will depend on your own municipalities' filtration quality and the quality or brand of bottled water you use.I highly recommend this economical Digital Water Tester. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Find out how much stuff is in your water. *by on Reviewed in the United States October 16, 2022* Hello,Great for the price. I bought this tester so I could figure out how good my water filter is at filtering out particulates in my tap water. I was a bit shocked how bad my tap water was. I knew it was full of sediment which is typical of the water quality in my area. The water in my area is also full of "additives" (do your research for your area please). But WOW I had no idea it was that bad. Good news...my water filter appears to work well lol.This unit won't tell you what's in your water, but certainly will tell you how much stuff is in your water. How accurate it is, I don't really know. I do not have another proven accurate tester to put this one up against.
