With that disclaimer in mind, my son is in 1st grade. One day we were at Target and he wanted to buy a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle "chapter book". He told me other kids in his class were reading chapter books and it was the class goal to be able to read chapter books by the end of the school year. I didn't want to discourage him so we got the TMNT book. However, as I learned, finding beginning level chapter books is not easy. For example, the Magic Treehouse books are wonderful, but my 1st grader isn't ready for them. I happened upon a Stink book at BJ's Wholesale, thumbed through it, and thought "wow! this is exactly what I was looking for." I then went to Amazon to order the rest of the series...and the prices here simply cannot be beat.
