Review: Top notch! Not exactly "Commerical" - First off, the ASUS BE90U is a really great router. Setup was incredibly easy, and based on my past experience with ASUS routers, I expect reliability to be solid as well. The feature set, signal strength, and overall speed are impressive. The value is okay. I do think you are paying a bit for the name, and the commercial grade angle feels a little overstated. To start, it has six large, adjustable antennas that you can position for proper coverage depending on your home. On the back, there is a 2.5 Gigabit WAN port and three 2.5 Gigabit LAN ports, which is fantastic. Not everyone can fully utilize 2.5 Gb yet, but with fiber speeds reaching 5 and even 10 Gigabit, it is nice to have. This is especially true if you are running a whole home network or want a faster wired backhaul to a central switch or another router. There is also a USB port for things like a hotspot, so you can set up a backup connection with a 4G or 5G phone. Unlike many ASUS products, this one is pretty understated. I think that is part of the commercial grade look they are going for. It does include some features that edge into that space, but as someone who works with actual commercial networking gear, I would not quite put it in that category. It bridges consumer and commercial in some ways, but it is not something I would deploy in a full commercial environment. It uses the ASUS Router app, and if you have used it before, setup is even easier. Once it detects the new router, you just scan the QR code and it can import your existing settings. This is great if you are replacing an old unit. It only takes a few minutes. You can also add it to an existing ASUS AiMesh system. I did that initially, but I also wanted to test it on its own. I have a three floor home and was previously using an ASUS ZenWiFi setup with three nodes, one per floor. It worked well with no major issues, but it leaned more toward the consumer side and was a bit slower overall. The BE90U is not wildly faster in raw performance, but it does feel quicker in day to day use. Things like applying settings and rebooting are noticeably faster. The antenna setup matters more than people think. If you have a multi level home, do not just point them all straight up. There is signal polarization to consider. If everything is vertical, you can get weaker coverage above and below the router. Angling some antennas horizontally helps push signal between floors. Think of it like shaping the coverage. Mixing angles gives you better overall reach. If you are in a single story home, this matters less. Design wise, I like that it is not overly gamer. It is sleek, black, a little edgy, but still subtle enough to fit in anywhere. I have mine set up on the third floor, which is a bonus room, with the antennas positioned correctly. Coverage from the third floor down to the first, and even outside nearby, has been excellent. Speeds have been consistently strong. Like any Wi Fi, performance drops with distance, but I have not seen anything concerning. This is especially impressive coming from a three node system with a dedicated backhaul. As mentioned earlier, the router is fast in operation. Boot times are quick, and applying changes happens fast. Reboots take about a minute and a half, which is great compared to my previous unit that took significantly longer. Setup through the app was extremely easy. Just follow the prompts. You can also access it via the default IP using the credentials in the manual if you prefer. For most people, the app is the way to go. Download it, scan the QR code, follow the steps, and you are done. If you already have an ASUS system, importing settings makes it even faster. After a quick reboot and maybe a firmware update, you will be up and running in about 30 minutes or less.
Review: Excellent Standalone Performance — Rock Solid and Reliable - I’ve been really impressed with the ASUS RT-BE86U. I’ve deployed several of these in single-router setups (no nodes yet), and every one has been completely stable and dependable. Setup was straightforward. I always update to the latest firmware right away, and each install has gone perfectly — no connection drops, slowdowns, or random issues. Most of these homes have around 20–30 devices connected, including phones, TVs, Google smart devices, and the occasional gaming PC. The RT-BE86U handles everything effortlessly with solid speed and coverage throughout the house. The only small change I’ve noticed compared to the AX86U Pro is the rearranged GUI — some of the Wi-Fi settings have been moved under the “Network” section. It’s a bit different and took a minute to get used to, but once you know where everything is, it’s not a big deal. Overall, the RT-BE86U has been flawless as a standalone router. It’s fast, reliable, and a great upgrade for anyone wanting top-tier Wi-Fi 7 performance without headaches.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid Router - Hardware and Software - Lots of Wired Ports
*by B***S on April 8, 2026*

This is solid router. It performs well - has solid connections to all of my devices, provides 900+ Mbps Up and Down, provides exceptional bandwidth, and manages traffic on 30+ devices. This router replaces the ASUS RT-3100AC which never had a single issue. Router is set up in a 3,100 square foot, 2 story home on a 1/2 acre. So I have Smart Outdoor Plugs to manage lighting, pest controllers and a water fountain. And this router has the range to connect it all. My previous ASUS 3100 almost provided full coverage but i would lose connections on the outer edges. So I added an extender and that worked for 10+ years. This ASUS RT BE88U provides full coverage without the additional extender. It has Ai Mesh capabilities so if I needed to push my range further deep over the 1/2 acre lot. I bought this particular router because #1 ASUS makes great routers, #2 this router will cover 3000 sq ft, and #3 all the performance hardwired ports.... I am using 4 of the wired ports now and there are 4 more for future proofing. Plus there are two 10Gb ports - one for the input WAN, and one for maybe a future NAS. This router has most everything one would need. It is not a gaming specific router, but it is a high performance all purpose router. The one thing it does NOT have is the 6GHz band. I was on the fence about even having the 6GHz because sometimes all the bugs aren't out of managing that third band. And 2.4GHz and 5GHz exceed my performance needs without any hassles of the 6GHz band. And even though it does not have the third band, it has ALL the other performance tech that comes with WiFi7. I am very happy with this router. Would definitely buy again.
