If they're finished with a thick, glossy polyurethane spar varnish, you're basically cleaning plastic, so this might be okay if you make it dilute enough. If it has a rubbed oil finish, a degreaser will strip the finish. If the finish has become too degraded, you might need to strip it, but using a water-based degreaser will raise the wood grain, which is not desirable. You'd be better off cleaning with lemon oil and then applying a finishing oil. I originally went to buy another know brand and they were out of it, so I read a couple reviews on this and I figures I'd give it a try. I needed it to clean a motor I just got that had 250k + miles on it. Needless to say, it looked like they never changed the oil because it had burnt into the heads, pistons, rods, etc... I was really skeptical about it and used it full strength. I was prepared to do alot of scrubbing, so I sprayed it all over the heads and grabbed the stuff to scrub it with. That's when I noticed it starting to literally eat it away. Instead of scrubbing, I just kept spraying (I poured this into a spray bottle) and watches it just fall off. There were only a couple areas that I had to scrub, but it was minor and didn't take long. It cleaned everything perfect and I couldn't be happier. It was going to cost me $140 at a shop to have the block, heads, pistons, and rods hot dipped. I had $17+ in it for two bottles at a local store. This stuff is heavy duty and I recommend gloves, because it isn't very kind to your hands.
