I'm gradually moving toward lighter shades. The lower the number, the darker the color (4A is much darker than 6A, etc.). Lately, I've been using 2 packages (a 4A and a 5A, etc.). It gives me enough to do my whole head and even enough to comb through for the last 5 min. or so. I asked Clairol about combining 2 different colors (and using twice as much product). They recommended using only one bottle of the developer for two tubes of color. That makes the product less runny, which I think is an advantage. My hair grows fast, so I usually have to touch it up every 2 weeks. When you rinse it out after applying, DO NOT SHAMPOO. Just rinse. I do this in the shower, then check to make sure all the color goes down the drain.
