Like many others have posted, these boots run a little tight with the thick padding so I bought mine a half size bigger than I normally do. That did the trick, they are still a bit snug but I know as they get broken in they should be perfect.As for the squeak. Initially there was no squeak, then out of nowhere I sounded like an angry squirrel when I walked. I have had that problem before with boots and it was usually the sole which squeaked on smooth floors like tile. These boots squeaked on every surface I walked on, even carpet so it obviously wasn't the sole. It turns out it was the insole in the bottom of the boots. They have some sort of foil bottom on them when you pull them out. I removed them and tried walking around, not more squirrel noises, nice and quiet. I spent a few buck and got some Dr. schools inserts and perfection.I'll admit you shouldn't have to spend another $5 or $10 for new inserts for a $160 pair of shoes but for me it gave me th black boots I wanted and solved the complaint many others have had.Otherwise I love the boot so far.Merrell shoe designers - try actually wearing your shoe prototypes before producing large numbers of them that have flaws. You could have easily fixed this problem by putting in different inserts.DUH! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and functional *by I***F on Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2016* I love Merrell shoes. I own several pairs. The sizing is consistent and the fit is perfect for me. Merrell shoes have a more roomy foot-box... not too wide but wider than most shoes. This provides a very comfortable fir for my feet. These particular boots are hot because they are waterproof. I bought them for this reason and I did not expect them to keep my feet cool. I have work these in rainy conditions and they have performed well. I have not put them through any rigorous hiking or heavy wet conditions YET. If they perform as well as my other Merrells I will have no concerns. If style is important to you, they look good too... solid without being clunky and the color is different than most hikers/low boots. The tread is adequate... not overly rugged but versatile and appropriately aggressive. I would recommend these for their intended purpose (wet and light-winter conditions). They are simply too hot to wear for extended periods on mild weather days. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Warm and durable. *by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2017* Seem to fit a little tight but they are a hiker not a pac boot, they will probably loosen up with time. The only thing i cant figure out is why the lugs on the left boot are yellow and the right gray.After 1 day the inner sole noise others have reported is in full effect.If your borderline on sizing i would go bigger.Final thoughts after wearing them for a week or so, the grip on slipery surfaces is definatly above par.The side pull strap is for decoration only as it servers no purpose when pulled on , unless im missing something???? Thinking about cutting them off.
