Turns out the problem was the Ardunio Mega 2650 I was using had a faulty voltage regulator on the 3.3V outlet so SPI communication would not work correctly. I tried a NodeMCU ESP8266 instead with the TFT_eSPI library by Bowder and it all works. And a MUCH simpler setup (no level shifters, etc) Touch sensitivity is a bit sluggish but acceptable for what I need to do so all is well at a great price! Previous review... Could not get it to work - the classic "white screen" problem. Note that unit requires level shifters to work with Ardunio Mega 2560 - that's not evident in the initial product description so read ALL the details carefully. It does comes with documentation and libraries you can download from vendor site but examples did not help and after checking and rechecking wiring and level shifter setup I gave up. Will try another brand.
