Soap and water worked better. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Saved me some time, money, elbow grease *by C***R on May 5, 2019* I had a freshly painted white brick fireplace that basically died when we used it without the glass doors. I had soot everywhere. It ran straight up above the fireplace opening and up the brick wall. Yuck. I was sad. I tried detergents, windex, magic eraser, all of that to get it off but it wouldn't work, they just dulled the soot. So I read about this online and got it and it took about 50% of the soot off, along with straight rubbing alcohol. I just kept wiping the grout and brick over and over with this pad (wet) and sprayed on alcohol. Overall, I think I ended up with 75% of the fireplace cleaned off. It still needs repainting to make me happy, but this was acceptable to me as a start. At least it's not as noticeable as it was. The picture shown is AFTER using it. I should have taken a before photo.
