LED under each key lights up through the letter which is clear and is embedder in the black key. The letter is not painted onto the black key. PS - I have no hesitation in recommending this keyboard. The programmable keys are a real time saver. Also, previous key pad I had required the programmable keys to be managed within the PC app. Not with this keyboard, they are held in the keyboard and no batteries are required. **Q: Do i need a software to program the macro?** A: no software required. macro's are held in the keyboard **Q: Can you turn off the back light?
