## Description

The Rotorvent Turbolite is a brand new addition to the well loved Colt Cowl range. The new revolving cowl is more aerodynamic, more efficient and now comes with an additional strap fixing kit included. The same high specifications that have made the original Rotorvent such a popular product are included in this product as standard. Fins are made from stainless steel, and the same fin fixing method which has been tried and tested for many years is still utilised. The main benefits of the Rotorvent Turbolite can be seen on the base of the product. The base is made from pressure die cast aluminium affording a strong and durable finish. The base is 30% lighter than the original Rotorvent whilst maintaining its strength. The rounder, thinner and more aerodynamically designed legs achieve a greater floe of gases through a larger area making the performance altogether superior. Tests indicate that the Turbolite provides even better performance than the original Rotorvent. The fact that the model is lighter also makes it suitable for installation on top of flue systems and mathane vent pipes as well as the traditional chimney pot. Above all these benefits the Turbolite comes complete with 2 fixing methods. The time honoured hook bolt is still the preferred method of fixing Rotorvents but included with the Turbolite is a strap fixing kit. Hook bolts can be tightened in the same way but there is now the option of the strap fixing kit as well for extra security in areas of the country with very high wind speeds. The legs simply attach underneath the wingnut, drop down the outside of the chimney pot or flue where the jubilee clip is then fastened (see illustration above)

Review: short chimney? - The joys of a bungalow are all very well but a short chimney on a cold windless day is nothing short of a menace to asthmatics when you are trying to light the wood burner. This moderate device makes one bask in the joys of an accomplished engineering mind. Note to self. I do not have such a mind. Which is why I bought this chimney cowl. Easy to fit especially with two on the roof. Picks up the merest drift of wind and off you go. Beware. It is sharp so don't try and stop it with gloveless hands when it has picked up speed. You may lose digits. It is not the cheapest option but it is well made and I am much happier without all and sundry wheezing like a bag of grampus when a cold day requires a roaring fire.
Review: Easy to install yourself. - This looks a quality item, well built and easy to fit yourself. It was delivered on time and well packaged. Await to see its performance in action when we light the wood burner.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hi wil this fit a square chimney**
A: I have not had mine fitted yet, but I have a round chimney and the bracket is round

**Q: Does the Rotorvent Turbolite require annual maintenance?**
A: Hi,

Thank you for your question.

They are maintance free cowls but a drop of oil every now and then wouldnt not hurt at all espchially if your using unseasoned wood. please be aware this cowls are not recommened for flue systems under 4 meters and flue gasses exceeding 250 degrees c and if for the burning of well seasond or kiln dried wood only.

I hope this helps

Kind regards

Paul

**Q: Can this cowl be used safely with a gas fire?**
A: i believe the data stated it could be used on any flue of a central heating boiler, but i would go to Rotovent to confirm this.
Ours is on oil-fired boiler. It's been observed that the exhaust emissions alone are not sufficient to rotate it, even though its on a friction-less bearing, it takes a bit of a breeze to spin it.
It is a well engineered bit of kit and worth the money.
Hope this is some help.

**Q: Will this improve the Updraught as my new wood burning stove seems to have a lack of Draw ?**
A: Www.Rotovent.at

Yes. The cold exterior air enters the chimney and creates a counter pressure to the warm rising fumes. These fumes are then cooled quicker than normal, preventing a complete exit from the chimney. Furthermore there is also the problem of flying sparks, especially in regions with weather inversion or strong winds. Flying sparks are the number one cause of the dreaded chimney fires. In the case of wood fuel, the risk of a chimney fire is increased due to an incomplete exit of the fumes causing a build-up of pitch. The pitch is then ignited by flying burning sparks. Chimney fires have often been the cause for entire buildings going up in flames.
The inefficient burning prevents the build up of the necessary heating temperature and can result in a definitive decrease of air quality within the house. If the smoke temperature is not hot enough the fumes cannot exit the chimney properly and start to condense. This condensation results in creosote build-up in chimney and flue. Creosote destroys the chimney and narrows the flue, decreasing draft efficiency.
The consequences are extensive and expensive reparations since the damages are discovered much too late.
