I'm not sure if they've made a massive difference in temps on my NVME drives as wasn't using it without prior to installing them, but for peace of mind plus coupled with the fan that sits above the NVME drives I feel more comfortable with them being there. Populating all the drive bays on the NAS won't be cheap, therefore putting things in perspective it's a small price to pay to ensure temps are kept lower than they should be if they weren't present.
