I love this box! **Q: What is the depth of the egg box?** A: the depth is the only problem I have with this box as I don't feel it is deep enough for a larger chicken to be comfortable. they must get accustomed to turning sideways.... opposed to facing out or backwards. I felt a sorry for them ( my favorite hen, a lrg orpington) but eventually she managed. A little deeper would have been nice. the dimensions are on the web page ( don't have numbers memorized) but this could be to discourage broody hens. which is why I bought these boxes. other then that issue... they are wonderful!!! **Q: How do you keep the next box clean?** A: There is a mat that needs cleaned. Pull it out and shake it off. Less cleaning if you don't let the chickens in it at night. **Q: Can this be free standing outside, attached to the fence? I was concerned that my hens would even go in it since we had rebuilt an entirely new coop.The first two days, they didn't go into it so on the third day I put just a little straw in it. Instantly, they went in and started laying eggs. After a day I pulled the straw out and they are using it consistently. If you put straw in the boxes, the eggs will not roll out. The eggs drop just like stated and they are clean.The perch is a nice feature and there is enough room for them to sit on it. I also found where I could get it for $100 less expensive on the manufacturer website. Make sure you do your price checking before purchasing.I haven’t put this product to use yet but in theory, it seems great; chicken lays eggs, eggs roll down to where they can’t mess them up or peck them.
