Old Mariners used them to predict stormy weather and/or hurricanes before they planned to leave port and set sail. My late Father had made one for himself and I always loved it.I have this on display on my bookshelf. I also display the wooden box and the pamphlet explaining the "Storm Glass" and how to use it. It's a piece of art, a GREAT conversation piece and I feel like I am sustaining the art of glass blowing and the old maritime beliefs all at the same time.We recently were hit by Hurricane Florence:(.
