The little red chicken is back — and as endearingly silly as ever — in David Ezra Stein’s follow-up to the Caldecott Honor–winning Interrupting Chicken. It’s homework time for the little red chicken, who has just learned about something every good story should have: an elephant of surprise. Or could it be an element of surprise (as her amused papa explains)? As they dive in to story after story, looking for the part that makes a reader say “Whoa! I didn’t know that was going to happen,” Papa is sure he can convince Chicken he’s right. After all, there are definitely no elephants in “The Ugly Duckling,” “Rapunzel,” or “The Little Mermaid” — or are there? Elephant or element, something unexpected awaits Papa in every story, but a surprise may be in store for the little red chicken as well. Full of the same boisterous charm that made Interrupting Chicken so beloved by readers, this gleeful follow-up is sure to delight fans of stories, surprises, and elephants alike. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Book 2 Of 5 | Interrupting Chicken | | Dimensions | 27.2 x 0.4 x 22.1 cm | | Generic Name | Book | | Grade Level | Preschool - 3 | | Importer | Penguin Random House India Pvt Ltd | | Isbn 10 | 1536212091 | | Isbn 13 | 978-1536212099 | | Item Weight | 187 g | | Language | English | | Net Quantity | 175.0 Grams | | Packer | Penguin Random House India Pvt Ltd | | Print Length | 40 pages | | Publication Date | 8 September 2021 | | Publisher | Candlewick | | Reading Age | 4 - 8 years | ## Images ![Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91ZmPTkQ2JL.jpg) ![Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61irV4Vy2WL.jpg) ![Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61+ZauJDTQL.jpg) ![Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/610+lW6nNhL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Format** options. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excelent *by on Reviewed in Brazil 9 May 2026* The best book to learn about story parts. Children loved it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better than the original! Love it! *by on Reviewed in Australia 16 December 2018* Absolutely love this book! We were introduced to the author’s work at the library with the original Interrupting Chicken book. I went to purchase it and then realised the author had made a sequel, so took a chance. I think my 4 year old likes the sequel better than the original! The illustrations are engaging, the book is funny and enjoyable (my son loves it and always laughs!) but it also provides a valuable lesson in interrupting and what you can miss out on.Really, really well done! Highly recommended! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love it ✨ *by on Reviewed in Turkey 16 October 2025* It’s soooo good. I really love this series 💕 ## Frequently Bought Together - Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise - Candlewick Press (MA) Interrupting Chicken - Interrupting Chicken: Cookies for Breakfast --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.ar/products/553002407-interrupting-chicken-and-the-elephant-of-surprise](https://www.desertcart.com.ar/products/553002407-interrupting-chicken-and-the-elephant-of-surprise) --- *Product available on Desertcart Argentina* *Store origin: AR* *Last updated: 2026-10-03*
